As we say, retro hairstyles are about to make a come back this is legit proof that those trends are almost here. Shag hairstyle for women is one of those subtle hairstyles that almost every girl wanted to rock back in the ’80s and ’90s.

If you remember Rachel Green from “FRIENDS” that is the proper inspiration we are going for. Shag hairstyles look like they need minimum work but that’s not the case. It consists of layers around the crown, fluff on the side, and sometimes fringed on the forehead.

What is a Modern Shag?

Shag started back in the ’80s so there is a lot of essence of that trend in the hairstyle which includes blob fluff around the head and roughly done layers. Now, the modern twist of that hairstyle is pretty neat, it includes a sleek style overall with less fluff and more attention to layers. More elements have been introduced, including forehead bangs, side fringes, and sometimes undercut sides. All of these have been the modern versions of the retro shag.

Short Shag Haircut or Long Shag Haircut?

These are quite important choices to make if you are the one who likes the hair length to be till shoulders then a short shag hairstyle is the way to go. On the other hand, if you are the one who is not too fond of layers and likes those long strands hanging then you know the answers.

Few things to note are, if you have curly or wavy hair texture then short shag wouldn’t be a bad choice. whereas if you appreciate length more than layers, then long hair shag is the hairstyle to go for.

Now we have all the knowledge, let’s check out some examples we have for you!
